Tuesday, November 7 – The Day Before We’re Supposed to Leave for Arizona… - November 11, 2017
an airport shuttle. They may be beginning to wonder about us here at the Jubilee Place 55+ Residence. OK, continuing to wonder about us… We had two crazy episodes here before noon today.
Episode One.
It’s 9 am and we’re getting ready to go to GoodLife and I hear a knock at the door. Laur is wearing the clothes God gave him, as he shaves, so I go to the door. It’s Bob, our superintendent.
“You need to move your van to the parking lot next door. The workers are repairing our parking lot today.”
“Oh?” said I. “We will be out of here in 10 minutes.” Bob replies, “They’re about to start.” I reply, “OK, five minutes then!”
I look out on our parking lot. There is not a single car there. Not a one! Said I to Laurence, “We must have missed that notice.” And then I looked at my fridge. On a neon green flyer is the announcement that tenants must move their cars out of the parking lot by 8:30 am.
Oops.

Episode Two.
Laur has a doctor’s appointment after GoodLife – our doctor is across the road from GoodLife. (Coincidence? I think not…) So, I tell my hubs, I’ll walk home, rather than wait in the doctor’s office with him. And given the number of people in the waiting room, I knew it would be a good long wait.
I get home and do my best not to step on the sticky patches on our parking lot – no cars are permitted yet. And I try to unlock our patio door (we’re on the main floor,) but to no avail. “Dagnabbit!” I remember, “I’ve given my apartment key to the gal who is looking after our cat Lucy, while we are away in Arizona.” (We hope to leave tomorrow.)
I still have my “outside” key so I go in through the main door and pray that Janet, our office administrator, is still in the office. Yee-haw, she is. I explain my situation. “No problem,” she says. She grabs the master key and walks down the hallway with me to our apartment.
Before she puts the key in, I say, “Just a minute. Let me see if I accidentally left the apartment unlocked.” I turn the knob, the door opens wide, and I apologize. Janet thinks this is funny, thankfully.

I am really hoping there is not going to be an Episode Three. Laur is driving home by himself - without me to nag at him. Will he remember NOT to park in the parking lot? I’m afraid to hazard a guess…

Episode Three.
OK, so a friend of mine asked me to pick up her prescription and I was happy to do that. I asked her “Which drug store?” and she said, “The one on Lakeshore.” And of course, we both knew what pharmacy she was referring to. Except I didn’t. I went to ABC Drug Store on Lakeshore and asked for Jane Smith’s meds. (Not her real name.) And they looked and looked and looked again and couldn’t find them anywhere.
Finally, the pharm tech and the pharmacist said, “Is it possible it might be at another drug store?” I said, “I don’t think so…” And then I remembered, “Right! There are TWO pharmacies on Lakeshore.” Off to XYZ Drug Store – and the prescription was there waiting for me…
I think I need to get the heck out of Dodge while I can still figure out how to call an airport shuttle...
