Monkeeing Around - August 18, 2018
I have been in a “listening to the Monkees” phase while doing my morning slog (slow jog.) I’ve especially been enjoying “Look Out, Here Comes Tomorrow” – a song, written by Neal Diamond and performed by the Monkees – about a lad who has to choose between two lasses that he loves – Mary and Sondra.
I have also been doing a fair bit of biking with Laurence over the past week – so this song and biking has becoming mashed together in my brain. So much so that I changed some of the lyrics. If you don’t know the song, this parody won’t make much sense – so here is a link to the song.

The other thing you need to know is that Laur is always of two minds about cycling – especially on Saturday – since that’s the day he loves to have breakfast in bed and read a good science fiction book. So – what to do? Go for a long cycle ride which makes his wife very happy, or enjoy bed & book which makes Laur very happy.
LOOK OUT (HERE COMES TOMORROW)
Look out, here comes tomorrow
That's when I'll have to choose
How I wish I could borrow
Someone else's shoes
JANNY, OH WHAT A CYCLIST
LEGS LIKE GODZILLA’S SPAWN
BED/BOOK, COFFEE AND PASTRY
CAN’T MAKE UP MY MIND
I see all kinds of sorrow
Wish I only loved one
Look out, here comes tomorrow
Oh, how I wish tomorrow would never come
Told them both that I loved them
Said it, and it was true
But I can't have both of them
Don't know what to do
I see all kinds of sorrow…
Next up, trying to find another Monkees song I could write alternate words to. About a woman who is constantly wrecking her own computer and then borrowing – but never returning – her husband’s.

Update!
Laurence (re)writes SOMETIME IN THE MORNING – also performed by the Monkees, written by Carole King

Sometime in the morning
A simple thought may occur to you,
And you cycle,
And show her all the canals you never showed her
The rides have shown her things
She never thought she could see
She didn't know (I didn't know)
It could be done so easily, now she knows (coz I knew)
The canal’s where it is for me
…
Sometime on the trail
You'll just reach out and she will be there,
Close as the summer air
Sometime on the trail (she will be there) she will be there
