Glovers (and Maskers…) in a Dangerous Time! April 7, 2020
I don’t know about you, but the less I do, the less I want to do. And the more I eat, the more I want to eat.
This didn’t used to be too much of a problem. Most mornings, I’d go to Good Life and get in two exercise classes, or a spin class and a swim. And most afternoons, I’d volunteer. But not these pandemic days.
Add to this that we won’t have internet until the middle of May – so online exercise programs are a no-go – and our freezer is broken. So the tons of food I’m cooking up? We have to eat it.
So last Saturday I proposed to Laur that we go to Walmart to get some dumbbells. (Mom, don’t say it!) We had to line up for 20 minutes outside of the store – fair enough – only to find out almost all of their entire stock had been bought out. We managed to find a few…
I also was keeping my eye out for a spin bike aka an indoor cycling bike. Laur was having nothing to do with this, but I know from experience it takes about three days to wear him out. There were no spin bikes to be spotted in any event.
Laurence caved to the idea of a spin bike by Sunday – a new record – and I went online to Walmart and to Amazon and saw my perfect bike – just like the one I have in our trailer in AZ – and it is sold out!!! No idea when it will be back in stock. Nor could I find 10 and 15 pound dumbbells. (Mom…)
Sigh… I emailed and Facebooked a few dozen folks to find out if by any chance they had a spin bike and / or weights for sale. Their response? “Honey, I’m looking for those too!”
I can be a tad relentless. What is the saying, “Like a dog with a (veggie) bone when she is on a mission?” I said to Laur, we could pay someone to ship us the spin bike from AZ. Laur just looked at me and said, “I am not helping with that!” And when he uses that tone, I know that he is unlikely to change his mind even after three days.
I had another idea. We could nip down to Green Valley AZ. Put the bike in our van plus some of our weights. Have a dip in the pool. Have supper from El Patios. Head back. It would only take two weeks and would be crazy illegal…but…
Of course, now that the weather is warming up we could go for almost daily extended bike rides… What’s that I hear? Laur is talking into our phone. (We don’t have internet, remember?) “Spin bikes for sale…anywhere within a one day round trip from St. Catharines….”
As far as I know, going bonkers doesn’t infect folks with Covid 19 – unless you leave your apartment. But Covid 19 isolation is driving me batty.
