The Four Goldfish of the Apocalypse - June 30, 2018
I don’t give any meaning to my dreams. They are always nightmares, even though I have the best life I could possibly have.
Take last night for example. Yesterday we had a perfect day of biking and eating out and listening to great podcasts (me) and resting. The joy of apartment living is no yard work.
But I had four crazy dreams and I do not know what order they happened in, but here they are.
Dream One. The Woman with the Beagle.
In this dream Laur and I arrived home. Home was a composite of Granny Marj’s, 465 Loach’s Rd (our home in Sudbury), plus other unknown ones. The driveway and back yard were staked out with pieces of wood with pink ribbons on the top. A woman came out with her beagle and indicated where her area was and where ours was. And she warned me – her beagle was “in heat” i.e. things would get messy.
Laur turned to me and said, “Did you actually rent to her!?” And I said, “I don’t remember…” We went inside and I looked at the ceiling of a living room and said, “Hey Laur, we could put in another apartment up there!”
Dream Two. Anna’s Mattress House
I am visiting with a nice woman. I have no idea who she was – but Anna was renting a room from her while going to university. She reminded me that we had not yet paid rent. Gah! Then a very young Anna appeared and told me she had moved and showed me her new place. It was one room and it was all one big blue bed. Anna was delighted. She said, “It will be so easy to do my pharmacy studies here!” The tenants below were awful and I didn’t know where she would go to the bathroom or cook, but Anna wasn’t concerned.
Back to the lady who Anna initially stayed with. I had to pay her first and last month’s rent. Neither of us could figure out how to do this. So I asked Laur to do it. (Laur is a math-phobe.) And I had the thought, “I wonder where Carolyn and Elaine are living?”
Dream Three. Of Hamsters and Goldfish
I had this massive hamster hutch – that alternated with being a budgie cage – and I knew I was unable to give the time the hamsters/budgies needed, let alone keep their cage(s) clean. So I decided to give the cage a good cleaning and fill up all the dishes and put an ad in kijiji. They would come with everything – but I didn’t know the ages of the hamsters/budgies.
Then I notice in this garage that I was in that there was a tank with four gigantic goldfish. I was really impressed by their size. And then I remembered that there used to be a few dozen and that I hadn’t fed them for weeks. Oh oh…
Dream Four. Bancroft Bound
In this dream Laur and I are waiting at a Tim Hortons and it is taking forever and Laur is less than thrilled. We finally get our coffee and bagels and get a table. My bagel is drenched with butter. (I like it plain.) And I don’t want to create a scene by returning it so I am trying to soak out the butter using masses of napkins. I succeed in making a huge mess.
Then Laur says, “I’m going to need the van. I have a week of conferences in Bancroft.” I asked him if the university was paying for this and he said, “Yes.” And I suggested that it would be better if he rented a car. And Laur agreed that that might be true, “But we’re already in Bancroft so it makes more sense for you to rent.”
I magically am now in a car driving home and it’s dark and I cannot see my way. But then the sun comes up and I see this wonderful country area with little houses. Either Caro or Elaine is in the car and I say, “I would so love to live here, but we can’t…”
And then I woke up to a very happy day – GoodLife and visiting. I feel a little guilty about my dreams. Son Tommy wasn’t in them. But given the weirdness of my dreams, maybe he’s glad he isn’t! 😊
