Dec. 14 to 16 - LOTS
Saturday, December 14 – Not a Lot
Not a lot happened today, save that Laurence and Charlie created a “welder’s arc” setting up the batteries for our trailer. Lots of sparks and one less cable, but no injuries!
Sunday, December 15 – A Lot
Lots happened! All good – at least for me.
First of all, church at Green Valley United Methodist Community Church where they have THREE services on Sunday. I went to the 9:30 and it was a Christmas Cantata. Now, you need to know that I don’t like Christmas music and if I’d known, I wouldn’t have gone. But this was not standard fare and I really enjoyed it. The organist, Ron, is a HOOT!
Laur meantime, poor lad, had to work on our sewer system. While he is not a Christmas Concert fan, he would far rather have gone to church this time. Ah well. I’m a bit superstitious – disasters (or mini-problems) happen in three. We had our screaming furnace-fan, our battery meltdown, and our sewage misadventure. I think Laur can now relax and get marking done – which he did a fair bit of, I must say.
(I should not have said “Laur can now relax.”)
We watched the latest James Bond movie – Skyfall – in the evening. I can’t stand James Bond movies, but I even I have a limit as to how difficult I can be. Given Laur’s trial by air, fire and liquid – it only seemed fair not to squawk too much.
Monday, December 16 – Special Lot
The Monday hikers are a special lot. They like to be on the road by 8 am and hike for hours on end, especially on steep, rugged inclines. This is why we don’t go on the Monday hike. But this one was different. They weren’t leaving until 8:30 AND the hike was just under three hours long and it was easy walking. The trail we went on is sometimes called El Camino because there is a rusted out, bullet ridden Camino in the midst of it. See http://www.sdmb.org/trails/robles-trails/
All went well, save that I got woozy at the end. Good old fashioned tiredness, heat, hunger and a mild ongoing inner ear problem. Laur was my Good Samaritan and steered me to the car. Next, off to the Golden Corral. See http://www.tucsongoldencorral.com/ You have to know that I don’t like all-you-can-eat restaurants, because I do just that. I’m a “plate-scraper” and if there is food left over anywhere, I feel I need to eat it. Then I am in agony, much as a golden retriever would be having discovered an open 50 pound bag of dog food. I know, a first world problem of the most ridiculous kind. And not to be repeated for a very long time.
I was too tired to do anything much, so I spend much of the afternoon watching documentaries about North Korea. I am an “urgent action writer” for Amnesty International Canada, but would very much like to become part of the AI North Korea network.
In the evening we started watching a new-to-us legal thriller – Damages. It stars Glenn Close and she is genuinely beyond scary, and many of the characters are downright creepy. http://www.nytimes.com/2007/07/24/arts/television/24stan.html I’m hesitant to recommend it because – like House of Cards – it represents everything I don’t agree with or believe in. But, hot dang! Glenn Close is brilliant!
